Timber wagon loads
Timber wagon loads
Fed up with coffee stirrers for planks or worse still, balsa wood?! Here I have produced solid maple plank loads, for ultimate realism. I have chosen maple for its hardness and close-grain appearance. It takes weathering paint very well and can be cut, drilled or distressed if desired.
For example, the 3-plank open wagon illustrated is loaded with 13 planks, each measuring 5mm x 2.75mm, so to scale approximately 9” x 4 1/2”. They vary in length from about 112mm to about 125mm, so a scale 16’ up to about 18’ long. These sizes where a very common timber commodity used extensively in the building trade.
Once fitted, as well as looking extremely authentic, they can also be useful at concealing weight blocks to help add to the weight of plastic wagon kits. Not all prototype timber loads where sheeted, and these make a delightful addition to any goods train.
Supplied in lots sufficient for one wagon as illustrated
